Diary

Yep, another illo for Illustration Friday, the theme this week is Diary. I had numerous ideas for this topic and more than one of them made it into this piece in one way or another. I have been wanting to spend less time working on the mac lately in order to get down to some more “hands on” illustration and this image was going to be a painting originally but after drawing the outline of the figure I just couldn’t resist taking a photo to texture up in Photoshop.

I also took a few pics of my process from initial sketch through to finished outline for anybody who might be interested. I use my lightbox to work up the sketch little by little before switching to a Sharpie for the outline. Quite often these days I don’t even bother using the scanner to import the outline to the computer, I just use the camera. By taking a photo of the artwork while still on the lightbox I also get a little extra texture on the image, nice!

Satellite

Well I somehow managed to squeeze in an illustration for Illustration Friday this week. The current topic is “Satellite” and as I have always loved the idea of old Sputnik bleeping its way around the earth I thought I’d would base my illo on that. Initially I wanted to include some kind of character and came up with the girl with the receiver headphones but I wasn’t really happy with the piece until I tried removing the character altogether.

I’d be interested to know if anybody prefers the image with the character though…

New website illustrations

These are some new illustrations that I have been working on for a client of mine in the UK, they are going to be used on the new company website that I am currently building for them. The plan is to animate one or two elements of the illustration in order to give the website a little extra life… should be fun!

Newspaper illustration

I’ve just completed a new illustration for a local newspaper. The brief was actually to design a set of stationery that incorporated a character illustration. I came up with this and then used elements of it within the new stationery.

More bistro beats
